Craig D. Barclay
Like John Alton, Craig Barclay began his
career as a trial lawyer representing physicians
and hospitals for the law firm of Porter,
Wright, Morris & Arthur. His mentors included
past President of the American Bar Association
Earl Morris and Fellows of the American College
of Trial Lawyers Bruce Lynn and Jim Monahan.
After 17 years on the defense
side, Mr. Barclay began representation of
patients of medical care providers in a law firm
founded by Jerry Maloon, M.D., J.D. Mr. Barclay
has evaluated the merits of thousands of
potential medical malpractice claims and
obtained several settlements for clients in
excess of $1 million. In 1991 he served as
President of the local Chapter of the American
Board of Trial Advocates and in 2007 received
the Michael F. Colley Professionalism Award of
the American Board of Trial Advocates for
service to the trial bar, leadership to his
colleagues, and extraordinary standard of
professional conduct and total dedication to the
ideals of mutual respect for all and the
preservation of the right to trial by jury. His
peers have selected him each year since 2004 as
an Ohio Super Lawyer in Plaintiff’s Personal
Injury: Medical Malpractice. He and Mr. Alton
are among two of only eight in Central Ohio
named as Super Lawyers in medical malpractice.
Mr. Barclay graduated first in his class at
Newark High School and received a full
scholarship to The Ohio State University to play
basketball under Coach Fred Taylor. In 1968 Mr.
Barclay was a member of Ohio State’s Final Four
team which finished third behind UCLA and
Houston. After receiving his undergraduate
degree magna cum laude in 1970, Mr. Barclay
attended Ohio State University Law School from
which he graduated cum laude in 1973.
