Daniel R. Freytag

Mr. Freytag graduated first in his high school class in Napoleon, Ohio and attended Wittenberg University in Springfield on a full scholarship. In his Senior year at Wittenberg he was selected as a candidate for a Rhodes Scholarship. He graduated cum laude from Wittenberg and summa cum laude from The Ohio State University Law School in 1974. In February 1975 he received the highest grade on the Ohio Bar Exam.

Mr. Freytag began his career as a trial lawyer at Lane Alton Horst where he practiced law with Mr. Alton until 1979. He has defended hundreds of large corporations, small businesses, professionals, and individuals in personal injury, wrongful death, property damage and insurance lawsuits, including cases involving airplanes and helicopters, asbestos, automobiles, civil rights, construction accidents and claims; consumer rights; contribution and indemnity; legal, dental and medical malpractice; electricity, explosions and fires; false arrest and imprisonment; Insurance and surety bad faith, claims and coverage; Interference with contractual relations, nursing homes; oil and gas accidents and underground trespass; premises liability; products liability; uninsured and underinsured motorists insurance; wrongful discharge, prosecuted and defended general business litigation cases involving such matters as commercial leases, fiduciary duties, fraud, government bids, healthcare contracts, magazine publishing contracts, notes, real estate contracts, sunshine laws, UCC sales contracts and warranties. He has also examined or cross-examined more than 1,000 lay witnesses and more than 150 expert witnesses; conducted numerous jury and court trials and orally argued many times in Courts of Appeals.

Mr. Freytag joined Alton & Barclay in 2009, where he has continued to represent individuals and businesses in commercial litigation disputes and individuals in claims for catastrophic injury and wrongful death arising out of negligence, errors and omissions and malpractice.
